You Do You

Early on in my art journey, I found a few other artists that I admired and wanted to to draw and paint like, particularly, HouseSketcher and TobySketchLoose.

I tried really hard to draw and paint like them, but couldn’t get it exact. I even went so far as to watch their videos and copy each brush stroke, but it all ended up in frustration.

Eventually, I said, “screw it” and went off doing my own thing.

Yes, I borrowed a little from this person and that person, but slowly, I started to do “my thing.” Anyone who follows my work can pick up on these little things that say, this is a Michael Sieber painting.

And this is the takeaway. We don’t need another HouseSketcher or TobySketchLoose, we need another you.

Sure, it’s fine to admire other artists and want to mimic their styles, but in the end, you have to do you.

The world needs you.

Borrow (or steal) a bit from this one and that one, but run in your direction.

Make it yours because that’s what the world needs.

We need you.
